I really liked it even though it was different from her NYC-based books, but if you liked Ethan Frome, I'm sure you'll like Summer too!Lindsey Sparkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654365166738983077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-10550093508378038902010-06-30T19:00:04.011-05:002010-06-30T19:00:04.011-05:00I loved this book and read almost the entire thing...I loved this book and read almost the entire thing in one sitting. I don't know why I love it so much because it's so bleak and tragic, but it somehow really touches me. It's my favorite along with House of Mirth. My library's book group is reading Summer for August so I'm really looking forward to it, I've owned it for several years but just haven't gotten to it yet.Karenlibrarianhttp://karensbooksandchocolate.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-53029355672363770212010-06-30T09:11:25.374-05:002010-06-30T09:11:25.374-05:00Rebecca- Yeah, I'm not sure how high school te...Rebecca- Yeah, I'm not sure how high school teachers teach this. It would be hard to write a research paper or even just an essay on it in my opinion.Lindsey Sparkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654365166738983077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-5998523157482318392010-06-29T20:29:37.987-05:002010-06-29T20:29:37.987-05:00I agree that it wasn't the same quality as the...I agree that it wasn't the same quality as the other two biggies you mention. (I have not yet read Summer.) I just felt it lacked depth in every way and wondered what high schoolers were able to find in it for discussion....Rebecca Reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06062252252301802298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-36061328581242943272010-06-28T15:40:00.515-05:002010-06-28T15:40:00.515-05:00Jane - I really enjoyed Summer even though it isn&...Jane - I really enjoyed Summer even though it isn't her normal setting. <br />Allie - I picked up Glimpses of the Moon recently at a used bookstore, so I guess I should read it soon!Lindsey Sparkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654365166738983077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-74049295022641917312010-06-27T21:06:02.923-05:002010-06-27T21:06:02.923-05:00I love Ethan Frome since it was my first exposure ...I love Ethan Frome since it was my first exposure to Wharton, but I love her bigger works much more. It is a very grim story, and I think part of it is that Wharton was writing about people she really knew nothing about. I am still planning on reading Summer this summer, though, since I promised myself that I would.JaneGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11094501834387622997noreply@blogger.com
