I think it would probably be better to use as a reference as you read various authors rather than reading straight through, which was how I started the book.Lindsey Sparkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654365166738983077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-39796315023901671402012-02-28T11:55:44.598-06:002012-02-28T11:55:44.598-06:00Yeah, I don't think I would have enjoyed this ...Yeah, I don't think I would have enjoyed this if I were being graded on my understanding or anything like that! I think it would be a good one to just pick up on and off to read the sections on authors you're interested in if you don't want to read the whole thing in one stretch.Lindsey Sparkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654365166738983077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-55048810754127252172012-02-28T11:54:22.465-06:002012-02-28T11:54:22.465-06:00I'm not a fan of Modernist/Post-Modernist work...I'm not a fan of Modernist/Post-Modernist works either. That's why my MA is in early English literature. :) I do have more of a appreciation for some of the Modernists like Fitzgerald, Woolf and Faulkner, but they aren't my favorites. I think that's why I enjoyed the first part of this book so much more. I've done a few of the Great Courses and thought the one on the English novel sounded good - I'll have to check it out.
And it's very nice to have it off the unfinished pile!Lindsey Sparkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03654365166738983077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-90279828598986572382012-02-28T11:02:35.470-06:002012-02-28T11:02:35.470-06:00I might have to go get a copy of this.

I think it's important to be a well-rounded reader, but I try not to force that on everyone.Alliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18420476898132383974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4873172796061848002.post-57154138353727215172012-02-28T08:21:48.938-06:002012-02-28T08:21:48.938-06:00I need to read this book! I need to remember that my GPA is a moot point now! Maybe that's why I never really considered an MA or PhD in English. That said, I do like books like this, and will add it to the list.

I really enjoyed a Great Courses lecture series on The English Novel. Thought is was a great overview of the books/authors I love, and interesting listening for those I will probably skip, such as Ford Madox Ford.

Doesn't it feel good to have that book off the unfinished pile!JaneGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11094501834387622997noreply@blogger.com
